The prayer I didn't want answered
For two years I prayed for a way out of teaching. The grading, the meetings, the invisible progress — I was done. I prayed for a door, any door.
The door that opened was a student named Marcus, who stayed after class to tell me my World History unit was the reason he stopped skipping school. "You talk like we're going to do something that matters," he said. "Nobody else talks to us like that."
I stopped praying for the exit. I started praying to see the room the way Marcus saw it. Same classroom, same grading, same meetings — different eyes.
Sometimes the answer isn't a way out. It's better vision for where you already are.

Prayed for an exit, given eyes instead. That's about the shape of it, in my experience.
